OUR CLIENT
Shaw Education Trust is a growing multi-academy trust. We have previously completed projects for the Trust at other schools, such as the plantroom and HVAC project at Endon. After successfully completing the Pool AHU project at Blackfriars Academy earlier in the year, we were invited back to carry out work to upgrade the plantroom.
THE BRIEFING
The old plantroom equipment was starting to show its age and required a complete refurbishment. This involved carrying out the following, broken into three stages:
Removal and preparation:
- Removed inefficient boilers, redundant pipework, flues, and high-level hot water calorifier
- Installed a new flue system for boilers on a cascade setup
- Integrated 2x pressurisation units with expansion vessels and a plate heat exchanger
- Upgraded heating side plate heat exchanger and added magnetic filtration/strainers
- Replaced heating, gas, and water pipework throughout the plant room.
Equipment installation:
- Installed 3x Remeha Quinta condensing heating boilers
- Fitted new Grundfos heating pumps across various zones including radiator and UFH heating circuits, and pool plant room
- Added 3 port control valves to circuits and supplied to the hot water skid.
Integration and finalisation:
- Conducted comprehensive testing and commissioning of plant and equipment, including water treatment
- Implemented a new trend BMS controlling the plant room system, hot water system, and circuit control valves, also catering to the broader needs of the pool plant room and AHU.
The School also needed the swimming pool to have heating for a week before the end of September so staff could work on preparing the space for when students return.
IN THE END
Once the installation was complete, the School had hot water and heating that they could rely on. This refurb was carried out during the summer holidays to avoid any disruption to staff or students.
Staff were able to gradually warm the swimming pool over the last week of the summer holidays, so students were able to have hydrotherapy as soon as they returned to School.
Students now have a more comfortable environment to learn in and the School’s heating is well set up for Winter.
