Our Client:
Since 2015, Newcastle Academy has been an educational setting for the eleven to sixteen-year-olds of Newcastle-under-Lyme. The school was previously known as Sneyd High School and was later renamed and gained academy status thanks to the hard work of the staff and the academic success of students.
The Briefing:
Newcastle Academy wanted a full mechanical refurbishment of their heating system, and Ford Mainwaring was hired to carry out a full mechanical consultation and design phase before the project got to the site. We worked with United Endeavour Trust and Entrust in the development stage of the new heating system, and worked together to advise the best solution.
The scope of works on site was to strip the existing major plant, heating system and controls and replace them with new efficient equipment, low surface temperature (LST) heating, and a building management system (BMS) control system. Our team developed the project design and took the project to the site.
We worked as the Principal Contractor, with our Project Manager and Supervisor taking the lead on-site as well as managing specialist sub-contractors including asbestos removals, BMS installation and builders’ works.
Our in-house engineers and supply chain carried out the full installation and commissioning of each system including:
- Remeha Quinta heating boilers
- Heating pumps, pipework, automatic valves and system filtration
- Hot Water boilers and supply pipework
- Electrical wiring
- BMS installation
- Heating distribution pipework
- Zone valves
- Low surface temperature heating, radiant panels, fan convectors and radiators
- Thermal insulation
- Gas supply pipework
